Visitation

Learn about precautions and tips for your visit

Visits to the Nascentes do Iguaçu Ornithological Observatory follow a protocol of minimum environmental impact.  Above all, there is concern for limiting noise pollution and avoiding impacts that the presence of people can cause to the local fauna and flora.  Therefore, the Observatory limits the number of visitors to a maximum of seven (7) people per day.  It also includes restrictions for certain types of activities, access to places and times to practice them.

Visitors receive orientation about equipment, safety procedures, emergencies and first aid kits, as well as about items that provide comfort and convenience during their stay in the area.  When using the trails, for example, it is mandatory that the visitor be accompanied by a guide accredited by the Observatório Ornitológico.  Children and teenagers must be accompanied by a responsible adult anywhere in the reserve, especially on the trails and at the Observation Tower.

The Observatório Ornitológico adopts and recommends the Code of Ethics for Birdwatchers, published by the National Center for Research and Conservation of Wild Birds (CEMAVE).  A version of the document, in Portuguese, can be accessed here or on CEMAVE's website.
